The Green Room Community Theatre offers many exciting programs for youth in the Catawba County region. With a heavy emphasis on theatre education, The Green Room offers after school classes, workshops, and camps for students. We also sponsor productions for young audiences and at least two mainstage shows that feature youth as an integral part of their casts. Below you will find a list of programs specifically designed for the youth in our community.
OUR EDUCATIONAL THEATRE PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
The Green Room Mary Catherine Shivers Scholarship is awarded to one or more graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional aptitude in the theatre arts and plan to pursue a degree in the arts.
The Green Room Summer Theatre Institute is a day camp in which students explore the exciting world of William Shakespeare and his country. Then they participate in a production of one of his plays. (All in one week.)
Creative Works in Drama in Drama is an after-school drama program for students in grades k-12, focusing on improving and refining their creative talents in the dramatic arts! Classes are held for about 10 weeks twice a year, a fall session and a spring session. Classes culminate in a full fledge production on the main stage in front of an audience.
Theatre Works is a set of 3-5 One Acts, open exclusively for High School Students, each semester. Students interested in this program must audition for a part in one of the selected plays. At the end of the semester a set of One-Act plays is performed as a full-scale production on the Green Room stage. Students who are not interested in acting, or who do not get cast can choose from technical positions like stage manager or costume coordination.
The Green Bean Players is a group of actors who perform classic fairy tales and children’s stories especially for young audiences. The goal of the Green Beans is to bring these classic stories and their characters to the stage in a format for family audiences.
